Latest news about Yookie

Bruno Yookie Budia’s Story.
Yookie was born in the DRC and came to South Africa when he was 14 years old. Difficult circumstances in his own country forced him to flee. Captured by soldiers, he was forced to kill people when he was only 9, and also witnessed the rape and murder of his own two sisters.
He managed to escape from the cave where he was imprisoned together with other children after 9 months and returned to the village where his parents were .
That day brought no happy reunion. He arrived, only to see his father and mother killed in front of his eyes. His mother was only able to get out the words, "Son, Run!"
During the years that followed, he travelled through Burundi, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe searching for peace. Finally he ended up in the streets of Durban (South Africa) where he became a "street child" himself, fending for himself daily. He was unnoticed and had to carry the hurt of the past alone.
Desperation for a new and different life suddenly quickened his mind to the words of his mother, spoken years ago. He was reminded that Jesus could hear him when he had nobody else to talk to. He prayed to Jesus then. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he found a church and people who helped him to lift up his head again.
He later joined another church in Durban and also found work. During these 18 months, he was ministered to regarding the hurtful past and began to heal inside.
Yookie then moved to Cape Town where he worked as a diving instructor and a fisherman. However, the clear call of God on his life guided him to leave the job. He became involved as a youth pastor at a local church and ministered to school children.
A friend introduced him to Youth with a Mission and in 2007 he did an Arts DTS at the YWAM Jeffrey’s Bay Base. After this he went to Worcester and worked with the Cultural Performing Arts Training for 3 months. This further training enabled him to teach on the Discipleship Schools of the Worcester and Jeffrey’s Bay bases on Creative Arts.
Yookie came to Durban in April 2008. He immediately got involved with the Work of Dignity Centre in Burlington. His heart is to be a bridge for hopeless people through creative arts, using drama, dance, music and evangelism. He feels the call of God to become a voice for the voiceless in the streets of the inner city and the poor in semi-rural communities.
Yookie heads up the Youth ministry in Burlington and with his enthusiasm and drive, he is able to gather the young men and women together and ignite them with new hope for their lives.

When you say a situation or a person is hopeless you ,re Slamming the door in the face of God.
Hope is faith holding out hand its dark. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

VISION – DANCE

To restore dance in the church – a dance that is holy (set apart for God’s use only), joyful & filled with praise & worship (not performance) because Jesus is the center.

To minister to people through movement.

Ps 79: 13 – “Then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture will give You thanks forever, we will show forth & publish Your praise from generation to generation.”

We need to raise up a new generation in the truth of God’s word, to develop a freedom of movement & expression within God’s presence.

WHAT IS DANCE

-In everything we do we practice movement .To show someone you appreciate him,you go to the person and shake his hand or give him a hug.To express anger ,you throw your hands in the air or stamp your feet or clinch your fists.
-We express our deepest feelings through movement .
-Planned or unplanned movements are both an expression of your personality and character.
-Movement is part of life.
-Many times our bodies say something that our words cannot communicate.

A little about myself...

I was born in the D.R.C - Democratic Republic of Congo, in a small village called North Kivu. At the age of nine I was kidnapped away from my family with the Rebels. I spent most of the nine months as a slave. I was forced to kill people when I was nine and half years old.
During my stay as a slave I witnessed the death of my own two sisters Elizabeth and Catharine who were raped in front of me and shot, bruised to death.

After escaping from the cave I spent six months walking through the jungle, looking for peace I find my father shot six times on his back and my mother shot two times on her chest.
After the death of my parents I spent more than seven and half years running away from the Rebel soldiers. I couldn’t sleep because of the nightmares. Three of my friends where eaten by crocodiles in the river close to Burundi after trying to cross the border without passports. Then two of us survive. I spent most of my years running from D.R.C, from Congo to Mali, Burundi, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe then South Africa. To each and every country I have stayed in, I was either a refugee or a street kid because people were looking at my out appearance which was dirty rather than to listen to the things in my heart.

Some ask me Yookie when was the last time you went back home. Honestly its been 14 years, without going home because of the things I was busy getting healed from. So I ask you brothers, sisters and family to partner with me as I go to make different in my own country, I know lots of friends of mine who are still going through difficult, they never know how to go back to the society after loosing their beloved ones, I am ready to take this risk of going to share about Jesus to them.

I am now working as a full time missionary/volunteer with C.P.A.T, Cultural Performance Arts Training School, It’s a non profit organization, part of YWAM, We are based in Durbanville, Cape Town. Our vision is to make a difference in peoples lives through Drama, Dance, Music and evangelism.
